Friday 7th March
This is our re-arranged trip following my accident in December. We were supposed to go for an overnight stay before Christmas on the weekend before Christmas (Christmas was a Monday last year).
The timings of everything actually ended up perfectly this visit. We got up at 7am and were ready by 8am. Annoyingly it was raining very lightly, but it was scheduled to stop as soon as we left. Kathryn grabbed the umbrella as we left, but actually didn't use it.
We had plenty of time before our train to London. So we were able to get coffee from Pret and I even had time to make a hasty trip to Laynes to get some chocolate spice cake and a postchia bun.
The train arrived on time and we got our seat. We have started going standard class as the new Azuma trains are pretty decent even in standard, and the first class isn't that much better; but it is a lot more expensive. We had our breakfast and gradually the sun came out as we got closer to London.
The transfer to the hotel was uneventful. And amazingly, this time our room was ready when we arrived at bang on 12 o'clock. Not that this made much difference, but we did quickly pop to the room before leaving our things and heading off to for a quick sandwich at Pret, before we needed to be at the V&A museum for 1:15pm.
We sat outside briefly with some coffee as the weather was nice, warm and a sunny. We then walked over to the street to the side entrance of the V&A off exhibition road.
The Naomi exhibit was pretty cool and interested to look at. Maybe a bit light on the details, there was only a brief section on her upbringing and contextual stuff. It was mainly just the outfits, which I suppose is fine for a design museum, it could have been a bit better though. I did enjoy it and thought it was worth our time and the admission fee.
We then walked up to Knightsbridge and had a quick browse in Harrods, before walking over to the Mandarin Oriental hotel. We went back to the bar inside which was amazing just like last time we went. Which I believe was 2 years ago! We had a couple of really nice cocktails and some bar snacks.
We popped into Harvey Nichols on the way back, and then via Ottolenghi in Chelsea to pickup some food. We then went back to the hotel.
We spent ages trying to get the TV to work with streaming from our phones, but couldn't get it to work this time. Therefore we had to watch iRobot, which actually wasn't too bad. My tums was a bit upset but eating some food made it better.
